As we journey through the Sermon on the Mount this fall, we are hearing Jesus’ vision for what it means to live as His people in the world. His words aren’t just lofty ideals; they are a call to action, a way of life. They invite us to live differently so that others might see the goodness of God in us.
One of the ways we are seeking to live out this calling is through our mission focus, Love Harrisburg. For us, this isn’t just a slogan... it’s a commitment. We believe God has placed us here in Harrisburg on purpose, and that part of our discipleship is to care deeply for the place and the people around us.
The prophet Jeremiah wrote to God’s people in exile with this encouragement: “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city… pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). To love our city means to seek its peace, its flourishing, and its wholeness. It means paying attention to the needs of our neighbors and asking, “How can we serve?” It means investing in the good already happening here and shining Christ’s light into places of need.
Our prayer is that together, as a church, we would be known not only for what we believe, but for how we love so that all may see the goodness of God through us.
Let’s keep asking the question, in both big and small ways: What does it mean to love our city, Harrisburg, as Jesus loves us?

Dear Church Family,
As we dive into a new season of learning and growing together, I want to encourage all families to bring their children to Sunday School each week. We have a great group of kids of all ages who work and learn so well together. Through engaging lessons, fun activities, and friendships, Sunday School is a safe and joyful space where seeds of faith are planted. God is doing great things in the hearts of our kids!
In September, our memory verse was Psalm 56:3, “When I’m afraid, I put my trust in you,” and we read Bible stories about how God has helped his people to be brave. In October, we will learn about how God helps us to make wise choices. We hope to see all of our kids there!

On Wednesday, September 24 the Youth Group along with several th members of HUMC packed meals for Kids Against Hunger, whose Mission is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in South Dakota and throughout the world. The volunteers package the ingredients for these fortified casserole-style meals which are then distributed to hungry children locally through hunger relief organizations and globally to assist in international crises.

This year, we’re adding a new layer of intentionality by making it not only a time for fun, but also a way to serve our neighbors. Alongside the games and treats, we’ll be collecting coats, hats, and gloves for children in our community who are without warm gear this winter.
It’s a simple way to show love to our city while enjoying a safe and joyful afternoon together. Bring the kids, invite your friends, sign up to serve candy, and come be part of the celebration
Mark your calendars for these great events coming up.
